A River in Egypt (denial)

Video Audio Installation
61/2 mins
2011

The concept behind this work is lies and deceit and the notion of inherited guilt and denial. By struggling to wade up the river that my grandmother allowed us to play in as children, I am trying to follow a different path, even if I cannot completely escape the past and the behaviours associated with it.
The piece is layered with audio recorded from texts I have kept over the last year, highlighting my sense of anxiousness, fear and loss; trying to reconcile myself with a world where I am unsure of my own existence.
